Those looking for more choice in the wrestling video game space have been left hanging by AEW: Fight Forever for a while now. The new game from upstart WWE competitor All-Elite Wrestling has been listed as “coming soon” for months and months now. It wasn’t that the game was even necessarily delayed, we just had no information on when it was actually "coming soon." Well, today that finally changed, as a late-June release date has been announced for AEW: Fight Forever. You can check out a shirtless Kenny Omega delivering the news in a brief announcement video, below.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, AEW: Fight Forever is developed by Yuke’s, who made the WWE games for years, but the goal is to make a faster, more arcade-like experience. In order to achieve that, some of the key minds behind classics like WWF No Mercy were added to the team. Here are some of the features you can expect from the game:
Features
- Career Mode
- Online Multiplayer
- Leaderboards
- Wide Range of Customization Modes
- Custom Wrestlers (attire and appearance)
- Custom Move-Sets
- Custom Entrances
- Custom Teams
- Custom Arenas
- Match Types
- Single Matches
- Tag-Team
- 3-Way
- 4-Way
- Ladder Matches
- Casino Battle Royale
- Falls Count Anywhere
- Unsanctioned Lights-Out (allows use of weapons)
- Exploding Barbed Wire Death Matches
Wccftech’s Chris Wray had the opportunity to go hands-on with AEW: Fight Forever last year, and came away fairly optimistic, as the game does in fact feel similar to classics like WWE No Mercy…
“It's not perfect, but I must admit I like what I saw from AEW: Fight Forever. For better and for worse, this is undoubtedly a throwback to the older style of wrestling games. There needs to be a little more polish, but [the publishers] likely know that’s the case.”
AEW: Fight Forever launches on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Switch. What do you think? Willing to give a new wrasslin’ game a chance? Or does Fight Forever just not look up to the standards you expect here in 2023?
